New 45,000 sq ft offices acquired for Potter Clarkson

Potter Clarkson LLP, patent and trade mark attorneys, announces the acquisition of new offices in Nottingham.

The firm was established in 1889 and has grown since then, especially over the last 25 years, from around 20 people to about 140.  In 2011, the firm was given the award for “UK Patent Prosecution Firm of the Year” in the global intellectual property awards organised by Managing Intellectual Property.

Potter Clarkson, represented by their long standing retained agent, Roger Davis of Geo Hallam & Sons, has negotiated offices at the Belgrave Centre, Talbot Street, Nottingham having an area of 45,000sq. ft. and 50 car spaces.   The building is owned by Nottingham Trent University and the offices previously occupied by the Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM).

GOEM will shortly vacate the offices and the building will be refurbished including the installation of a new comfort cooling system as part of the fit-out works of Potter Clarkson.

Roger Davis reports that their existing premises of 16,000 sq. ft. on The Ropewalk were acquired on behalf of Potter Clarkson in 1997 and they have been fortunate in acquiring two additional buildings to handle their expansion.   However it became clear that there were no further opportunities to remain on The Ropewalk.  The aim was to achieve a relocation in 2012 so that Potter Clarkson were not left exposed on existing lease liabilities.   NTU accepted the timing issue and as a consequence Potter Clarkson will not move into the building until mid-2012.

Roger Davis further reports that there was a will on both sides to complete the transaction and in achieving this considerable help was offered by the rest of the professional team including Helene Maillet-Vioud and Dominic Swift of Browne Jacobson (acting for Potter Clarkson) plus Gillian Roberts and Isobel Radford of Freeth Cartwright and Matthew Smith of Jones Lang LaSalle, Nottingham office, who represented Nottingham Trent University.

Richard Bassett, the Managing Partner, said “We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to get everyone together under one roof again.  The Belgrave Centre is an exciting building that will enable us to continue our growth for some time to come.”
