Geo Hallam History

The Past
Geo Hallam & Sons was formed by the Hallam Family in 1880. Initially it was a dual business of coal merchants and rent collectors, but in 1910 or thereabouts the coal merchant side of the business ceased trading to concentrate on Commercial and Residential Property Management.
The Property Management business steadily grew, but many of the family members were called away to the Armed Forces in the 1st and 2nd World War. Fortunately they all returned safely and from 1945 the business flourished.
The last members of the family to run the business were five brothers and one sister: Bernard, George, Edward, Geoffrey, Kenneth and Flora.
Bernard Hallam was the leading light of the business and created excellent contacts with leading local and national developers, institutions and pension funds where much of his work was involved in acquiring development sites, the letting and the onward sale of investments. During this time all divisions of the Estate Agency continued to grow steadily.
In 1976 Roger Davis, a Chartered Surveyor, was invited to join the firm with a view to taking over the client base of Bernard Hallam, who retired. Between 1976 and 1981 the original family members retired and in 1981 Roger Davis became sole Proprietor. The only change in the business was the running down of the residential sales arm in order to concentrate on all aspects of Commercial Agency together with Commercial and Residential Management.

The present
This business continues to grow and clients now range from public bodies, government departments, professional firms, local and national developers together with corporate clients for whom Roger Davis personally manages in excess of 450 Commercial properties.
The current team are instilled with the philosophy of the Hallam family in providing an honest and transparent advice to clients.
In 2007 the firm ran out of space at Bank Place and the decision was made to re-locate. In keeping with the firm’s tradition, new offices were discounted in favour of a Grade 2 listed building at 24 Regent Street, Nottingham
The offices were built in 1857 and designed by Thomas Hine, one of Nottingham’s famous Architects. The Grade 2 listed building is positioned in a wonderful terrace of Regency Offices and was considered suitable to the tradition of the business. The building was the subject of a full refurbishment internally. The firm now has new offices to allow the business to flourish for the next 127 years!
